COSCO SHIPPING Far East-South America West Route Successfully Completes Maiden Voyage

   On the evening of October 27, the vessel “COSCO Asia,” departing from Callao Port in Peru, South America, completed loading and unloading operations efficiently at Yangpu International Container Terminal after undergoing ship sanitation inspection and manifest supervision by officers from Yangpu Customs under Haikou Customs. The vessel then departed safely, marking the successful launch of the Yangpu “Far East-South America West Coast” route. further solidifying Yangpu Port's pivotal role as the core hub of Hainan Free Trade Port.

Cancas Port in Peru serves as a major gateway on South America's west coast and a landmark project under the Belt and Road Initiative. Yangpu Port functions as the hub port for the New Western Land-Sea Trade Corridor and the logistics gateway for Hainan Free Trade Port. The launch of this route successfully establishes a “key link” for direct shipping between Hainan and South America's west coast, significantly enhancing logistics efficiency between Hainan and South American nations while effectively reducing overall transportation costs. Following route optimization, Yangpu Port has been designated as a core port of call, transitioning from “transit via detours” to “direct connectivity.” This development builds a “two-way bridge” for specialty goods trade between Hainan and South America.

   To ensure the smooth launch and operation of the new route, Yangpu Customs proactively engaged with shipping operators, port authorities, and service agents to understand their needs. It provided one-stop customs clearance services, optimized regulatory processes, implemented targeted appointment-based boarding inspections, and expedited manifest verification and release, thereby supporting the route's efficient operation.

   Moving forward, Haikou Customs will deepen cooperation with all stakeholders involved in the shipping route, continuously enhance service quality and regulatory efficiency, and leverage the route's role in the “dual circulation” strategy to inject stronger momentum into the development of the Hainan Free Trade Port.
